Instructor Team

Fifty percent (50%) of our instructors hold a doctorate degree and the rest hold a masters' degree and are practitioners in their area of expertise. Our trainers are all certified by Motorola University to deliver training and consultancy. With abundant know-how and a wealth of experience in guiding business operations, they are well capable of giving instructions in classrooms and providing consultation on real-world issues, especially in the areas of Performance Excellence, Six Sigma and Quality Management. Deriving their valuable expertise from years of engagement in management or technologies at Motorola or other organizations, they are not only masters of theoretical knowledge, but also highly skilled practitioners. Some of our instructors and consultants even stretch out to score exciting achievements in business practice and academy. All our instructors have over 15 years of working experience.

Cathy Zhang

Cathy Zhang, senior Six Sigma instructor and consultant at Quality Institute of Motorola University Asia Pacific. She is a very experienced Six Sigma consultant, mainly responsible for coaching and consulting programs in Six Sigma Black Belt, Green Belt and Lean Six Sigma Improvement of Motorola business sectors and external clients of Motorola University. Cathy was certified MBB qualification by George Group in USA. She has trained more than 100 Black Belts and Green Belts with the Improvement Programs. Cathy was responsible for all the training and coaching programs of Black Belt and Green Belt in the Group, China Region, which she had worked for, based on her diagnosis of Six Sigma values, implementation of Six Sigma philosophy, construction and optimization of Six Sigma Management System, and leading big cross-functional Six Sigma Improvement activities. Cathy has extensive coaching and consulting experience in the fields of Sales and Marketing and Quality Improvement for Hi-Tech, Telecom, Manufacturing, Aviation and Retailing businesses.

Dr. Eric Maass

Dr. Eric started with Motorola in 1979 and has held a variety of positions, including Research and Development, Device Engineering Manager in semiconductor manufacturing, Director of Operations of an organization focusing on new product development and Director of Design and Systems Engineering for integrated circuits used in wireless and fiber optics data communication products. Eric was one of the earliest practitioners of statistical methods and among the first to use Design of Experiment (DOE) in Motorola. An early advocate for focusing on reducing variance as the key requirement for improvement, his article "Strategy to Reduce Variance" was published the year that Motorola announced the Six Sigma program. He co-developed the Yield Surface Modeling, a patented method for multiple response optimization, when he led a team in an early Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) effort (1989) that developed 57 first pass successful integrated circuits in 28 weeks—a record that Motorola SPS never surpassed. He was chairman of the Motorola SPS Six Sigma Steering Committee prior to its spin-off into Freescale Semiconductor. He currently is Director of SSPD Methods and Master Black Belt in the Corporate Initiatives Group. Eric Maass received his master degree in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, and will shortly defend his dissertation for his doctorate in Industrial Engineering.

Dr. Harry K. Shah

Dr. Harry, Six Sigma Master Black Belt at Motorola. During his 22-year career at Motorola, Harry has held several positions in Engineering and Management. His experience includes Process Development, Process Improvement, and Project Management. He has been involved in practicing Six Sigma at Motorola since its inception. In his current position, Harry works with businesses within Motorola to expand the use of Six Sigma methodologies and tools. He instructs Six Sigma courses including DFSS and DMAIC for Black Belts and Green Belts. His areas of interest include Data mining, Design of Experiments (DOE), Response Surface Methodology, Advanced SPC, Regression, Time Series and Multivariate Analysis. He also instructs Six Sigma classes to graduates at Arizona State University. Harry holds Ph. D. from Arizona State University.

Dr. Jenny Yan

Dr. Jenny Yan, Director of Motorola University China and Motorola University Asia Pacific Operation. She has more than 13 years of experience in corporate university, education and human resource development, including corporate university set-up, structure, strategy and related research and consulting, especially in Leadership and Six Sigma Integration, knowledge transfer and knowledge management, learning performance improvement and development, organization development and career development. Jenny Yan gained her PH.D from U.K.

Dr. Jim Liu

Senior engineer, Motorola Six Sigma Black Belt, member of Motorola Science and Technology Consulting Committee, senior instructor and Six Sigma master consultant at Motorola University. One of the earliest Six Sigma advocates and promoters in China, and a Black Belt Statistics expert and focal point at Motorola, Jim Liu, besides his in-house duties to promote Six Sigma management process and mentor Six Sigma Black Belt Statistics at Motorola, has ever coached the Six Sigma projects at more than 40 organizations including Lenovo, ZTE, Electronics Testing Centre of Taiwan, ACON, ITT, Hi-P, Wanxin and Jinya Electronics, generating tens of millions savings every year for some of them (e.g. Lenovo and ZTE). Through these years, Jim Liu has brought up 10-odd Black/Green Belts Statistics at Motorola and scores of Black Belts outside of the company. Liu ever made insightful presentations on Six Sigma at more than 30 symposiums home and abroad. In 2002 and 2006, He was recruited by Chinese Association for Quality as an expert instructor to its Six Sigma Promotion Counsel.

Eddy Wang

Eddy Wang, Principal of Supply Chain Institute of Motorola University Asia Pacific. Eddy has held a variety of roles with progressively increasing responsibility in Motorola Supply Chain since Eddy's joining Motorola in 1993. During these years Eddy's has constantly proven and demonstrated outstanding capability of strong leadership and skills on driving performance improvement through organization efficiency, process reengineering and development of highly motivated and effective team. Eddy has a broad base of experience in operations management, materials management, strategy procurement, as well as exposure to R&D, marketing and business development areas.

Jeff Summers

Jeff Summers, Director of Quality and Six Sigma Learning, Motorola University. Since joining Motorola in 1999, Jeff has held a number of operations and quality roles across several business units, including GB/BB instructor of the Corporate Initiative Group, and instructor of Leadership and Change Management courses at Motorola University. Currently, Jeff leads a team of MBBs and instructional designers in the creation of Quality IQ, Six Sigma, and Designing for Six Sigma training materials. Jeff has more than 20 years of cross functional experience in Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing Operations Management. His expertise includes, among many others, Lean Process Design, Leadership Jumpstarts, Process Driver Workshops, Design of Experiments (DOE), Response Surface Methodology and Quality Control Plans. He has been involved in numerous manufacturing plant start-ups and re-engineering projects. Jeff holds a BS in Electrical Engineering.

PW Wong

PW Wong, Master Black Belt, has 23 years of working experience in Product, Process, Manufacturing, Quality, Design Engineering and Six Sigma. Throughout his career at Motorola, he has worked as a Product and Process Engineer, Manufacturing and Engineering Section Head in Assembly and Test, Product Engineering Manager, Statistical Methods & Six Sigma Manager, IC Packaging Development Manager and presently as the Head of Quality Institute for Motorola University Asia Pacific and Middle-East.

In the last 6 years since joining Motorola University, PW has been conducting training, project coaching and providing consultation in Six Sigma implementation for both internal Motorola organizations and external customers in diverse industries and functions such as Financial Services, Healthcare Services, Engineering & Construction, IT & Software Development, Telecommunications, Automotive, High-tech Product Development and various Manufacturing ranging from semiconductor and electronic products to food and pharmaceuticals.

PW's Quality Institute team manages the team of Six Sigma & Lean consultants and is responsible for Six Sigma, Lean & Quality program development and deployment. His team has so far developed Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Design for Six Sigma and Master Black Belt Certification Programs for delivery to external customers.

R. Paramasivam

Paramasivam is the Motorola University Regional Director for South Asia and Middle East. His responsibility includes seeking and providing learning and performance improvement solutions to the customers, deploying Six Sigma, Leadership Development and Balanced Scorecard initiatives to achieve business objectives.

He is also a certified Master Trainer for Motorola's Six Sigma Leadership Jumpstart and Champions Training for senior management as well as being a certified leadership trainer for Asia. He has trained middle and senior managers in China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, India and Japan.

He has a total of 35 years working experience in Motorola covering Operations Management, Training & Development and Strategic Management. He has also presented papers on Six Sigma and Balanced Scorecard at local and international seminars/conferences - Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia for the past 4 years.

Steven Lee

Steven Lee, senior Six Sigma instructor and consultant of Quality Institute of Motorola University Asia Pacific, part-time director of the 6-Standard Management Association of Taiwan, an experienced Six Sigma Black Belt. Steven Lee has been a Director of BNG Great China, a Financial a Financial Controller of a Medical System Company, a Manager of Customer Service Center, a Quality Manager, a Regional Six Sigma Leader of Taiwan, a Global Supply Chain Manager, and an ESC Manager. Steven Lee is a Six Sigma Consultant of Far East National Bank, Compal Computer, Toshiba Precision, Foxconn, Advantech, Yuehua Electronics, Picvue Electronics, Apollo Electrical (China), Ruentex Industries, Runhorn Pretech, Ruen-An Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Uniflex, Lung Kee Group (Hong Kong), Chuanghwa Picture Tubes, Wus Printed Circuits and HTC. Steven Lee acquired a Master Degree in Corporation Management at Minnesota State University of USA.
