History and Future

Bob Galvin, the second president of Motorola Inc. and a pioneering and visionary entrepreneur, always had a dream to open a corporate university of his own. This dream was finally realized in 1974, when Motorola University (MU) was founded.

Just as what Bob had anticipated, MU has become a major driver to the continued success of a US$40 billion global technology company, and helped a good many of young entrepreneurs realize their fantastic dreams.

Ever since its incorporation, MU has been committed to pushing boundary in the area of business administration and communicating critical management know-how to Motorola's managers and experts. Building upon its expertise and experience acquired over the past three decades, now in Asia, the university is offering hundreds of training programs for Motorolans, partners and suppliers every year.

In 1974, MU was established at Motorola's headquarters in Chicago, USA, to provide refresher and occupational training programs for Motorola employees.

In 1986, MU invented the Six Sigma methodology, a 'golden standard' that has revolutionized Motorola's operations and helped reshaped corporate quality management worldwide.

In 1994, MU took initiatives to engage itself in research and proof of advanced management concepts, becoming a powerful facilitator to Motorola's development and change.

In 2002, MU stretched out to provide training and consulting services for Motorola's clients, suppliers and partners, helping the company shape a broader business ecosystem.

In 2005, MU established five institutes dealing with the five major links in management process, and took on higher social responsibility by opening its training and consulting programs to the general public.

Through great efforts over the past three decades, MU has gained worldwide reputation as a leader in corporate education. A case in point, in 2005, the university was named the "Outstanding Corporate University" by the Asia Pacific Human Resources Research Association (APHRRA).

History, Future's Mirror!

MU has taken on the road to promote Motorola's 30 years of expertise in management and operation, especially the experience in designing and implementing the Six Sigma quality management system, to the public. This initiative has been well received by the IT, aviation, finance, chemical, agriculture, electronics, healthcare, mining, manufacturing and government sectors in Asia, even across the world.

Currently MU is providing a variety of tailor-made programs, including business solutions for enterprises, certification and training for operators' management and technical forces, and soft skill training for college students. In the future, MU will, by sticking to its vision of "University Setup and Corporate Management", continuously perfect its organization, broaden its portfolio and expand into new disciplines. The university is committed to serving the business community with its professional insights and trendsetting concepts, becoming a driving force behind organizational change and growing into a full-fledged corporate education provider that leads the direction of business development.
